The above photo taken in 1995 shows Matthew walking through the graveyard in the old church which now operates as The East Clare Heritage Society. Gerard Madden was the co-ordinator at that time. The marvellous old church is used for public performances in the village of Scariff, near Mountshannon in Co.Clare. Nearby is Holy Island, which holds the ruins of about 5-6 old churchs, plus many gravesites going back centuries. Nobody lives on this lovely island, but we attended a funeral service for a long time resident of the village. Cows slowly graze the green pastures, creating a wonderful and peacful picture postcard of the island. We were taken across Loch Derg to Holy Island by Gerard in a motor powered 'tinny', followed by a flotilla of boats conveying mourners to the service.
